How it worked
A panel of judges will select the best 20 entries. These 20 songs will be made available for free download from Vodafone Live! and from the Vodafone.ie music store. A public chart will be kept of the 20 songs over 3 weeks. This will be updated daily on our site as well as phantom.ie and hotpress.ie. The chart will also be announced each morning on Phantom 105.2’s Pure Morning with Sinister Pete. Hotpress will also carry an 8 page Bright New Sounds supplement in March featuring each of the 20 acts involved. After 3 weeks, the 5 acts with the most downloads will play live at our final event in Tripod, Dublin. The event is free for all to attend and will be hosted by PJ Gallagher. Tickets are available here. Our panel of judges will decide the winner on the night. The winning act will be signed by Universal and record their new single at Windmill Lane Studios
The winners - The Minutes
Dublin trio The Minutes have gigged extensively in Ireland and the UK, and played with the likes of Albert Hammond Jnr and Fountains Of Wayne. Last December, they headlined a sell-out show in The Village. Summer 2007 saw the group head into the studio for the first time to record with renowned producer Gareth Mannix, whose previous credits include Republic of Loose and Delorentos. One of the tracks to emerge from those sessions was the beautifully melodic 'Ukraine'. Citing a range of top class influences such as The Beatles, The Strokes, The Raconteurs and Kings of Leon, The Minutes' ability to create energetic rock tunes with a pop sensibility makes them a band to treasure.
